The Dark Market

The Dark Market is an alternative market and immersive experience. It turns Deakin Waterfront Campus into a gathering of makers, performers, curious characters and strange discoveries. It draws on cabinets of curiosities, alchemy, gothic art and old-world apothecary traditions. A curated line-up of independent artists, makers and merchants brings original art, alternative jewellery and clothing, photography, curiosities, homewares, potions, botanical creations and spiritual readers. Shopping is only part of it. You can take on The Alchemist's Quest, experiment at the Potion Making Bar, make your own oddity or swap something strange at The Curiosity Exchange. A live DJ sets the mood while Halloween and alchemy-inspired characters roam the stalls. The market is presented by Catalyst Events, a Geelong social enterprise that creates employment pathways for people facing barriers to work. A portion of ticket sales goes to local charities. Gothic finery and dressing up are strongly encouraged.
