About this market

Mackay Riverside Market started as a handful of stalls by the Quay. It has grown into a Thursday tradition, with thousands of locals winding down the week on the lawn as the sun sets over the Pioneer River. The market is a not-for-profit community market run entirely by volunteers. It gives preference to local growers, makers, bakers and cooks who put their name on what they sell, and products follow natural, low-tox principles. Expect a rotating line-up of street food from dumplings to Thai, sweet treats and pantry goods, handmade crafts, herbal wellness products, and live music drifting over the water. It's an easy place to bring the family, grab dinner by the river and catch up with familiar faces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the market go ahead in bad weather?

It is generally promoted as rain or shine, but the volunteer organisers may cancel a week if the weather isn't favourable. Check the Facebook page for updates.

How do I find out which stalls are coming this week?

The line-up rotates weekly, and the full stall list is posted on the market's Facebook page each week.

How can I get a stall?

Apply through the market website. Bookings are made through the Ozee system and close at 3pm on the Tuesday before market day. Site fees start from $20 for an unpowered 3m x 3m site, plus $10 for power. Powered sites are limited and go to food vendors first. Local growers, butchers, bakers and makers are given preference, and $10 million public liability insurance is required.

Is there seating?

Yes. There is riverside seating, and visitors are welcome to relax on the lawn with dinner.
