About this market

Run by the WA Association of the Deaf since 2018, the Deaf Community Markets is a once-a-year gathering for the Deaf community and the wider Perth community. Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing visitors come together to catch up, celebrate Auslan and Deaf culture, and support the Deaf Ecosystem of small businesses. Deaf-led businesses are given priority, and they trade alongside hearing stallholders. Past markets have featured handmade crafts, crochet toys, mosaic garden art, succulents, jewellery and Auslan merchandise. The market takes over the grounds of Shenton College. Food trucks, stalls and shady lawns under the trees make it easy to linger with a picnic rug. Visitors are welcome whether they know a little Auslan, a lot or none at all. Children's activities have included face painting and Auslan storytelling, which keeps the day relaxed and family-focused.
