About this market

Every Sunday inside a magnificent 1927 industrial building on the Kingston Foreshore, the Old Bus Depot Markets fills Canberra's day with colour, creativity and community. Running since September 1994, it is one of the capital's most enduring cultural institutions - an Australian Tourism Award Hall of Fame inductee that draws locals and visitors alike. The focus is firmly on handcrafted quality: over 200 stalls each week showcase the work of local and regional designers, potters, jewellers, fashion makers, artists, and food producers, with not a mass-produced item in sight. The gourmet food hall fills the air with freshly brewed coffee, baked bread and spiced street food, while live music from Canberra performers sets the mood throughout the morning. Monthly themed Sundays - Multicultural Sunday, Designer Sunday and Collectables Sunday - rotate through the calendar alongside special events like the annual Canberra Wool Expo, keeping the market fresh for regulars. Because it is fully indoors, the experience is the same whatever the Canberra weather throws at you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get there by public transport?

ACTION Bus routes R2 and R6 both stop near the markets on Sundays, running approximately every 30 minutes from the City interchange. R2 also runs from Westfield Belconnen (platform 1); R6 also runs from Woden bus interchange (platform 5).

Where do I park?

Free car parking is located off Eastlake Parade - look for signs on Wentworth Avenue. Disabled parking (six spaces) is also available at the Fyshwick end of the building, via Printers Way off Giles Street. Bus groups should call the office on (02) 6295 3331 or 0481 170 847 to arrange bus parking.

Is there bike parking?

Yes, bicycle racks are located in the courtyard off Wentworth Avenue.

What are the Themed Sundays?

Each month the market hosts rotating themed Sundays - Multicultural Sunday, Designer Sunday and Collectables Sunday - bringing additional specialist stallholders to complement the regular line-up. Super Sundays combine the best of all three themes.

Does the market run in bad weather?

Yes. The market is fully indoors inside the heritage depot building, so it runs every Sunday regardless of rain, cold or wind.

Can stallholders apply to trade?

Yes - stallholder applications are open via the website. The market focuses on Australian-made, handcrafted and premium products; a student pathways programme is also available for emerging makers.
