Held on the grounds of the heritage-listed Tenterfield Railway Station Museum - opened in 1886 as the "Great Northern Terminus" - the Tenterfield Railway Markets offer a wonderfully atmospheric morning out in the New England tablelands. Stallholders set up across the station precinct six times a year, bringing a mix of arts and crafts, books, clothing, homemade baked goods and preserves, plants, tools, toys, and second-hand goods. It is the kind of community market where the setting does as much talking as the stalls: the sandstone station buildings, historic rolling stock stretched along the platform, and the wide country sky make browsing feel genuinely different from a suburban market day. After the market, the museum itself is open to explore - from Tilly the 1912 Tank Engine to the hand-operated turntable and the Trike Shed full of quirky workers' transport.
