About this market

Running continuously since 1981, Surry Hills Market is one of Sydney's most enduring community institutions. Held on the first Saturday of every month at Shannon Reserve on Crown Street, it brings together 60+ unique stalls specialising in handmade, second-hand and recycled goods - true to the spirit its founders intended. Organised by the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre, the market was originally set up to give local low-income earners the chance to earn extra income through trading in recycled and handmade goods, and that community-first ethos remains at its heart today. The leafy Shannon Reserve setting and eclectic mix of vintage, preloved and artisan wares make it a favourite ritual for locals and a genuine discovery for visitors exploring one of Sydney's most creative inner-city neighbourhoods.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for a stall at Surry Hills Market?

Applications open on the Thursday before each market (10 days prior). Submit online via Local Stalls - you can create an account at any time but applications can only be submitted on that Thursday. Successful applicants are notified by email the following Friday. There are no drop-ins; you must be on the bookings or waiting list.

What types of goods can be sold at the market?

The market specialises in handmade, second-hand and recycled goods. Stall applications that do not match this policy may be rejected. The coordinators aim for a diverse range of products at every market.

Are trestle tables available for hire?

No - the market does not rent out trestle tables due to insufficient demand. Stallholders on the grassed area must also provide protective flooring to protect the park surface.

Who runs Surry Hills Market?

The market is organised by the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre (SHNC), a community organisation based at 405 Crown St, Surry Hills. Proceeds support SHNC community programs.
